Default There goes MAF Sensor number 2 :(

Last night i twist the ignition, turn on my headlights and pump up the volume on the just purchased Incubus CD (wish you where here)... engage 1st gear and start letting go of the clutch little by little by little until I'm not touching it anymore, but I'm not moving?!?

Quick glance at the RPMs tell me that the car is off. Did i twist the ignition? i ask myself... i don't think so.

I twist the ignition again and the car dies on me! 3 more attempts and i have to rev the engine to keep it alive for a minute or so and then i leave.

I keep checking my instrument cluster while i drive home and nothing weird comes up... i park the car and listen to the engine but nothing seems to be wrong. At this stage I'm thinking probably some dirty gas got something clogged and it cleaned itself up... I'm cool now

BUT NO! this morning everything is ok until the moment i park the car here at Edge Racing... my engine light turns on

Quickly i plug the VAG and yes MAF Sensor number 2 is gone

My cone filter is coming off after i put the new MAF, guess i should have calculated new MAF sensors into my car payments :/

Default You can probably get a Delphi MAF as a replacement at a fraction of the cost of a Bosch...

Is it obvious the element is damaged?

Default This is just a guess but if the damage wasn't caused by a foreign object passing through the filer..

the failure might be because the element is experiencing too much of a thermal strain. That is it is being heated and cooled to abruptly with the new filter and it cracks and breaks off over time. Just a thought but it might be worth exploring if you keep breaking the sensor.

Default I think your theory is right on the mark

The internal walls of the intake tube is clean like a whistle so that rules out foreign objects.

I think abrupt demperature differences play a big role.

Default It could be the pwr supply on the ecu overdrives the sensor (pumps too much current through it)...

during transient throttle requests and when you let off the gas the ecu can't respond fast enough and overheats the elements. It would be interesting to see if the problem goes away with a stock filter and airbox. I'll see if I can find out how much current a hot wire sensor draws.

pwr supply on the ecu - that would cause other problems, pwr supplys don't work that way.
