VAGCOM beginner questions....Please help
I ordered the USB version of the VAGCOM cable and know nothing about it. So here are some questions regarding it's background and use.
1. Why is the diagnostic plug in my car a trapezoid, and the cable is a rectangle?
2. Is it possible to connect to a new iPaq with windows mobile 2003 or do I have to have a laptop?
3. Is the only way to get the program license for it to pay $100 to Ross tech or are there other companies that offer versions that are just as good?
4. Can it be used to remap engine characteristics rather than buying a whole new chip?

1: Sounds like an e-bay cable.
2 & 3: You need to use a laptop for vag-com. There are other brands that are meant to be used with a palm-pilot or equivalent but theyâ€<sup>TM</sup>re not nearly as good of a product as â€oethe real thing”.

Try the Vagcom boards here
Some of the guys there are with Rosstech and really know their stuff.
