Display of Gear in S-Tronic Auto Mode

I'm not to have my ECU reflashed since I only have 1 year left on the lease.
I think they're doing it so TT drivers don't complain why their TT is in 6th gear while they're only doing 35mph. Personally, I wished they had a automatic setting in between D (economy) and S mode.
Lot of times I look at what gear I'm in while in D and make one, two, or three downshifts based on that. So, having the gear indicator is helpful to me and I don't really want to have to shift to M to do that.

I do alot of city driving with most of it in manual mode (would be driving a 6sp if I didn't have such frequent problems with my knee). Knowing the gear I'm in when going from auto to manual is really quite nice, giving me a frame of reference at switch time. I'd be quite pissed if/when I lose that information. An aside.....love to be able to upshift with the stick and downshift with the left paddle.
