Default I could live with knowing it was just the pad compound.

If that is in fact the case with what is going on. Obviously an agressive pad is more prone to squeal, especially in cold temps. You get better stopping power and fade resistance as a trade off though. Fine with me. A definitive answer would be nice though. Does anyone know what pad Audi uses as OEM and which one this might be?

Default Happens to me too...

At my 5k service they checked the pads and rotors and everything was fine. They said the pads sometimes squeel when it is cold or damp out. That seems to be true because that is when I notice it the most.

Default 2000 miles on and not a squeel to be heard.......

However....had to have new break bits installed on my Chevy truck last fall and the guy doing the work found a dead mouse stuck in one of the rotors....

I guess that would have given more of a squeek than a squeel though......ho hum....

Default Yes, with every Audi Ive ever owned.

Sad to see they still suck at the brakes.

My advice, demand new pads and rotors and make sure everything is OEM Audi.

Sway from this and deal with squeal.

Sorry, thats how it go's (In my experience anyway).

Im kind of pissed this is still an issue. I seriously sold my first Audi because of it, and was plagued on my second Audi till I learned this is one place you dont go after-market, ever.

Default OEM pads have a 3M sticky backing that no after-market pad will offer.

A quote from the old forum - "Stay stock and stay worry free" (Its sort of a joke, but holds water).

Default Hi Serge! Was that after Daytona :-)

If I use OEM pads on my MK 1 they always squeal after a track weekend. We heat the pads to the point that it changes the compound by cooking out the resin. Flip side is that they stop GREAT after this. Dust and squeal seem to go hand in hand with high performance pads.
I'm going to install Hawk HP+ soon for the improved stopping power and fade resistance but they squeal right out of the box. Right now my OEM Pagids are quiet even after Daytona. (I did have to dress the rotors on my return home as they had pad material buildup that was causing noise and pulsation.)

See you around. Roebling Road?
