Purchase Price
Greetings, I am new to the forum. Today the dealer and I agreed on a price of $500 over invoice for an '09 2.0 Quattro, premium with enhanced interior and 18 inch bicolor wheels. The offer included the invoice pricing of the car (34691), enhanced interior (930), 18 inch wheels (745) and delivery charge (825). He accepted the offer, but then showed me an invoice sheet that included $195 for pre-delivery inspection and $229.95 for Audi advertising assistance. He wouldn't budge from these two items. I am wondering if these are items that I should pay for? By the way deal is not completed yet.

Dealer's correct ...
these numbers showed on my invoice as well - I don't know if these are state specific fees or not (I'm in PA), but the dealer apparently does pay these fees - so passes them onto you. I argued this point too, but the dealer showed me that all their Audi invoices include these, and they were not negotiable.

I understand.....but you're making a couple of different points.
The first one, as I took it, was don't worry about that small amount, just pay it. The second, hey it's legit, you have to pay it. If it's legit, then I agree with you, it's not a deal breaker. I just know that sometimes our friends at the dealer like to slide additional fees into deals...

Yes, they do. However, if there's a question (which there isn't with the paint protection, for
instance), and if it's a small amount, I'd not bother to argue it. Argue big money, yes; argue stupid crap, yes; argue advertising for $200, not me.

and reinforce dealer surcharges as acceptable ??!!
You could say the same for the dealership - they are going to make a sweet profit and though these are prices that we have to pay, if the dealer had been straight up, the agreed on price would've incorporated this. At worst agree to split the cost but why reward them for shady dealing.

Umm....the agreed upon price DID incorporate this. He agreed to invoice + $500, which is exactly
what the dealership is asking him to pay. These aren't superfluous surcharges, tacked on like paint protection, market adjustment, or my favorite, ADP...and yes, I have seen "ADP" on a dealer's sticker with my own two eyes, so it's not a myth.
These are legitimate charges levied by Audi corporate on its dealers. The advert fee is how they buy full-page ads in the NYT and the like, and the PDI is a labor charge, just like it is on a motorcycle. Try looking at the additional charges on a bike sometime, if you think these are bad. I'll give you a hint, I paid $600 in additional charges & fees on an $8000 motorcycle, and that's before sales tax.
