Default thermostat and pump replacement problem

So I have a tt mk2 2009 with 2 liter and had an engine code that said I had a temperature resistor malfunction, which could be a thermostat problem. The local Audi dealer evaluated the codes and was definite that it was the thermostat and needed to be replaced. During the replacement process, they now come and say the pump, gaskets, and bolts also need to be replaced because there has been a change in the parts. The original repairs were to be for $530 dollars, now an additional $750 to complete the fix. Sounds fishy to me, anyone out there have a good insight on what is happening? peter.loux@gmail.com
