Are you in Dynamic drive select mode? Could be a flaw in the "soundaktor" (sound system augmented engine sound). If so try the Comfort mode or turn it effectively off via Individual mode setting and see if it goes away.

I agree with Huey52's that the soundaktor is the likely culprit.
All last week, I had a buzz/crackle from my front left speaker in sport mode only that was driving me crazy to the point I made a dealer appointment. Right after I made the appointment, I opened up the hood and checked if the plastic cover that is just below the windshield wipers was loose and inspected it for any debris. I think the soundaktor module is near the horn underneath the plastic cover and close to the firewall.
The problem resolved itself after that just as mysteriously as it occurred. It happened in the fall last year and by the time my dealer appointment arrived, the buzzing sound, of course, disappeared. I'll keep my appointment at the dealer since if the soundaktor is loose in its clip, that could cause a rattle (as I've seen on various Golf Mk7 posts).
This noise is different than a rattle from the dash, the kind you here going over bumps. I had one of those, too. To resolve that rattle, the dealer needed four hours to take apart the dash, re-torque everything and apply felt to contact points.

I had the same buzzing noise. I pulled the fuse to verify that it was the Soundaktor and then I unplugged it. It's not real easy to get to it, but it was worth the effort.
