"Comm errors" on HEX-USB
I'm trying to do a basic cal on my HVAC system in my 2000 A8. I have the current release of VAG-COM loaded on my Sony Vaio SRX-99 on top of Windows XP Pro (with all service packs loaded). Other VAG-COM functions have worked well (recoded the tranny and central locking already). Only this item, function 4 (basic) on the HVAC processor is giving me this error. The process is supposed to run about a minute -- opening and closing all of the dampers in the system. I hear it begin by opening and closing a damper or two, and then VAG-COM aborts with "too many comm errors." There are no other programs, virus checkers, etc. running on the Vaio. Ideas?

401 beta or 311?
The 401 beta has a few niggly issues.
Uwe gave me a fix for the software hanging in "Auto Scan", and he is aware of that issue.
I'd email Uwe, and see what he says. He wrote me write back, as usual. Try and use the 311, if you are not already.

Have you been through *everything* here?

Yep, did everything but reinstall XP Pro
I think it is significant that it *only* fails on this long "basic setting" process for the HVAC vents. PaulW (A8/S8 forum) says his VAG-COM fails at the same point with the <a href="https://forums.audiworld.com/a8/msgs/54659.phtml">same error.</a> He was going to try his old version of VAG-COM but didn't know when he'd get around to it. I sure didn't expect to see these errors with the USB version, since I believe all the hype about USB being faster, better, etc. Choosing the i/f was not an option because my Vaio has no serial ports. :-(

OK, since another user has the same problem
with a different PC and a different car, I don't have any good answers for you.
Spread the word: We'd be happy to try to figure out what's wrong here, but my guess is, it won't be reproducible without a car that exhibits this behavior.
Since we're in the Philly area and your on the left coast, you're not a good candidate for this. But if someone can bring a car by, should be able to figure out what's going on.

I'll spread the word...but meanwhile
Meanwhile, you might try the HVAC "basic settings" on <i>any</i> A8 (or even A*) you have available to see if you can reproduce the problem. It might be quite commonplace, but just not a frequently exercised function.

I don't have an A-anything available here at the moment...
But if anyone within driving range can reproduce this problem, regardless whether it's an A4, A6 or A8, we'd be thrilled if they broygh their car by and let us check it out.
