Engine Code 16500 / Coolant Sensor Circuit

Engine Code 16500 / Coolant Sensor Circuit
My check engine light came on and I tested with code reader and got 16500, which says engine coolant sensor. I find that there are two, an F76 and a G62. I have noticed that the temp gauge does not seem to get far from cold. Which sensor is the likely culprit or could it be the thermostat? Car is 1996 Cabriolet with 2.8L V6, 77000 miles.

The G62 is one of two sensor elements in a common housing....
and has a 4 pin harness connector. Typically, one sensor is for the dash gauge, the other is used by the ECU for various control functions. Both sensors are replaced by changing out the dual sensor four pin temp sensor.
