I'm trying to figure out what to check or replace. I ran an auto can on the car, had some other issues too. but I knew of some of the others, just trying to fix the MMI system right now, cold morning , turned it on and nothing, worked the night before. the screen comes on for a few seconds and then nothing, none of the buttons works or come on. wonder if I can get any info. why is there no communication to any MMI function?? acts like there is no power like a fuse went or the optical bus is bad??

All those systems which "Cannot be Reached" talk to the CAN Gateway by means of an optical MOST bus. This is a "ring" architecture bus, and any break in the ring, either in the optical cabling or due to a bad module, will take the entire MMI system off-line. However, Audi was smart enough to include a means of diagnosing such problems, and VCDS supports it too. Click [Applications] -> [Optical Bus Diagnostics] and post the results. Hint: The [Copy] button will put the results in the Windows Clipboard and the [Save] button will put the results in a plain-text file for you.

Thanks, I saw that on your web site , I'm going to try it. still learning with the thing. I did buy a loop back coneector so i can take things out of the loop to see which one is bad. been doing a lot of reading on the MOST bus. System shuts donw when the main control board can't get back what it put out. Thanks I'll post it when I get the time to run it..

 

The dealer wanted to take a look at it, the power amp to the MMI system was shot from water leaking on it from the sun roof drain that had come off. Bad seal or something. Never really got a chance to debugg it , dealer did it for me. they had done work on teh sun roof last March , cobered thg ewhole thing under warranty of work that was done last March..
