Default Swapped radio and xm won't work

I have a 2006 Jetta GLI that I swapped radios in because the buttons were peeling. The radio I put in came from a 2008 GTI with satellite radio. I can listen to the preview channel and traffic channel, but thats it. I let the car sit outside in clear view for a day and when I would power on the stereo and press a button the screen would say loading, but nothing ever worked. I tried leaving the car on for over an hour at least three times and still nothing. I've checked the coding, but there isn't an option to program the radio for satellite. I went into the can gateway and it shows that satellite is installed and I can do a scan and it shows the module, but says it's defective. If it was defective would the preview channels work? Is there any wiring I need to swap on the wiring harness since it's a different stereo (silver buttons, the old one had black buttons)?

Hard to say what's up with that. Might be a compatibility issue between the 08 radio and the XM tuner. I don't believe XM was offered in 08. Could also potentially be a compatibility issue with the new radio and some other component in the 06 car (for example the Gateway).

What module was it that you put in?

When the 0F module dies, it will de-activates and go on preview mode.
This is a common failure and probably a coincidence that it happened after radio replacement.

Do you have a before and after scan so we can see the radio part numbers, codings and software levels?

I would also assume that re-installing the old radio has the same results?
