Anyone know for sure if a 255/40/17 tire on a 8.5" rim with 30mm offset will fit on the front of a B6/7 quattro A4. Pretty sure the rear will be o.k. but it's the front that I'm concerned with.

I don't recommend that size for the fronts. The tire is too wide and the fender may become the problem. You are running a low offset and the wheel sticks out a little more than it should, so by adding a 255 you may rub. Maybe you should consider a staggered fitment if you want a wide tire on your vehicle.
