Default Sumitomo HTRZ2s get noisy with age?

I saw a post from thecraig that said after 10k miles his sumitomos were getting noisy. Is this a common experience? I am thinking of putting them on my A4, wanted to know the durability/longevity.

Thanks!<p>99.5 1.8Tqms Laser Red

Default BoB: Report of noisy Sumitomo HTRZ2's from Sean G.

"I did make a discovery regarding the Sumitomos, however. They were DEFINITELY noisy. Other owners had complained that as they aged, the Sumitomos started to generate a lot of noise. I did not think this was the case. As it turns out, I did have a lot of noise. As soon as I drove on the new Kumhos, the decreased tire noise sound level was obvious. Apparently, I had just gotten so used to the noise levels of the Sumitomos that it was transparent to me."<p><a href="http://registry.audiworld.com/audi/registry/details.asp?car=2696">

Default Thanks Adam! So what are preferred tires so that noise doesn't become a problem?

I'd like a nice grippy aggressive summer tire, so I can go 35 mph down MLK to work every morning. ;-) Doesn't rain much here, never snows, so a summer tire is effectively a 4 season tire.

ideas?<p>99.5 1.8Tqms Laser Red

Default I'm running Bridgestone RE730's on my Avant.

They perform extremely well for the money. Some have complained about noise but I do not find the noise objectionable (a lot quieter than the Pirelli P7000SS). Great all around grip and they hold up pretty well at the track too! ;-)

How much do you want to spend? If money is no object, then the Bridgestone S02 Pole Position is a good choice. Yokohoma AVS Sport is also popular around here and it's a bit less than the S02. BTW, the RE730's have a great treadlife rating too - there's a review of this tire at the TireRack.

BoB, where do you live? You mentioned MLK and I got the idea you were in my neck of the woods here in the SF East Bay.<p><a href="http://registry.audiworld.com/audi/registry/details.asp?car=2696">

Default Austin.

Ah, the miracle of the martyr. There is a MLK in nearly every city. Honoring a great man, no doubt about it.

I'm in Austin, Texas.

I would like to have a free budget on this, but I am trying to keep it to around $1200-$1300, and Discount Tire isn't helping me much.<p>99.5 1.8Tqms Laser Red

Default So would you guys prefer RE730s over the HTRz][s?

DaveMan's experience notwithstanding, I have heard good things about the Bridgestones. Maybe they'll offer a "Please don't abandon us cause Firestone & Ford ****ed up" discount ;-P<p>99.5 1.8Tqms Laser Red

Default Should be able to do that.

I did my Ace Desires (more $$$ than the Lola) and RE730's for about $1300.00 I think.

If Discount Tire is giving you grief, why not try an independent to see if they can order the wheels for you? I think I paid $180.00 for the wheels and $140.00 for the tires. You may need new bolts and hubcentric rings too.<p><a href="http://registry.audiworld.com/audi/registry/details.asp?car=2696">

Default The only local shop Ace pointed me to wanted $187 a wheel, and no HTRZ2s...

Discount is too damn busy to call me back.

So I'll drive in and get in their face tomorrow and see if they want to take my money.

Thanks for the advice! I enjoy the community here so much!<p>99.5 1.8Tqms Laser Red

Default 8,000 miles on my Sumitomo's, and I think they are getting louder.

It's a bit hard to be certain, but I think my HTRZ IIs have gotten a bit louder lately. But if people didn't mention the fact that they got louder, I may not have noticed at all. I'll have to see how bad it gets, but otherwise I've been very happy with the tires.<p>- Rog

They were great until he hit around 10K, then they got really loud. I've been in his car, the noise is like a jet taking off.<p><img src=" http://www.quattroclubusa.org/r/florida/newlogo.jpg " border="0">
