Default Time for new tires? help.

Hi-

My bone stock 1.8t Avant has almost 40,000 miles on it. My tires are showing a little wear (a lot on the edges
These are the stock goodyear Eagles or something. Does anyone know the "recommended" life of these tires. I noticed some slippage this morning on wet roads and want to get some new tires before winter IF I need them. Also, Any recommendations on a Great All-Season 15" tire.
Oh yeah - I'm in Philly and want to ensure traction in the snow.
TIA,
mike

Default not sure what size you need, but Dunlop SP5000 is a favorite A/S tire on this forum, also...

the new Dunlop A2 is getting good reviews.

Comparing the two, I would presume that it's a trade off between better traction (SP5000) and longer tread life (A2).

Eddie @ tirerack can probably tell you more.

Cheers,

Default Measure the tread depth...

on all four tires, and on each one, check inside, middle, and outside of tread. This will reveal alignment problems and lots of other things. Legally, you can go all the way down to the wear bars (2/32"), but I think that's nuts. I'm replacing mine now at 6/32. Others might way 4/32. All depends on your concern about traction vs. cost. I don't believe in fooling around with tires.
