Audi A3: How to Replace Side Mirror

Installing a new side view mirror really isn't that hard. Check out the right way to install a new side view mirror.

This article applies to the Audi A3 (2004-2012).

Mirrors are used to help provide a safe driving environment, by ridding the driver of most blindspots. So, instead of having to turn our heads all the way around, we just have to check our side mirrors and go on our way. However, when you are missing one or more mirrors, more blindspots occur in the vehicle. To avoid these dangerous driving conditions, use the procedure listed here to replace a broken side mirror.

Materials Needed

Phillips screwdriver
10mm triple square bolt bit
Replacement mirror

Step 1 – Open the door and remove the trim

Using your Phillips screwdriver, begin removing all the trim panel screws. Once all the screws are off, lift the door panel upwards and you will see the box for the window motor. Disconnect the wire harness and pull off the door panel.

Step 2 – Pull of the mirror cover

Locate the mirror cover and loosen its mounting screw. Then, carefully pull off the cover for the mirror and place it aside.

Step 3 – Disconnect the mirror

First you'll notice a foam connector on-top of the harness. Use your phone to take a picture of its positioning, then remove it. This will reveal the connector, which you can now remove. At the top you will see the 10mm three-sided bolt that you need to loosen and to remove the side mirror housing.
