Audi A4 B7/B8: How to Reset TPMS

Already fixed that slow tire leak but still seeing the TPMS warning light on your dash? Here's how to reset it!

This article applies to the Audi A4 B7/B8 (2005-2015).

Tire pressure monitoring sensors are a nice added feature found on many higher-end vehicles that help the driver stay on top of their car's tire pressure ratings. It is helpful to know when a tire is low so that the owner can be proactive and address the issue sooner rather than later. The sensor communicates through a module installed on the wheel itself which sends readings to the on-board computer. The results are then displayed on the dash where the driver can review the pressure ratings for each corner of the vehicle. If one of the tires loses pressure below the recommended amount, an indicator alerts the driver of low pressure. This is a good tool in preventing accidents and poor handling, and avoiding reduced tire life.

Materials Needed

  • Tire pressure gauge
  • Portable air inflation tool

Step 1 – Ensure tire pressure is correct

If you've already refilled air to proper pressure, you'll want to make sure it is reading at least the minimum amount required by the car manufacturer.

  • Remove the valve stem cap(s).
  • Connect tire pressure gauge and note the reading for each tire.
  • Reference the sticker on the doorjamb to ensure the right tire pressure is being recorded from each tire.
  • If any of the tires is lower than the recommended pressure, inflate the tire(s) to manufacturer specifications.

Pro Tip

Many gas stations have air stations which allow you to check the air pressure in each tire.

Step 2 – Reset the TPMS

Once you have confirmed that the air pressure in each tire is accurate and within the manufacturer's recommendations, you can proceed to reset the TPMS system.

  • Turn the key to the "on" position in the ignition.
  • Press the "car" button on the dashboard.

Step 3 – Resetting TPMS through stalk

Some older models don't come with the option in their navigation system to reset through the car menu. You can use the stalk on the right side of the steering wheel to navigate the menu instead.

  • Turn the key to the "on" position in the ignition.
  • Press and hold reset button on stalk for 10-20 seconds.
  • When the menu shows up, use the up/down rocker switch to get to the tire pressure menu.
  • Press the reset button to access the tire pressure menu.
  • Press and hold the reset button to allow the current tire pressures to be recorded.
