Default Cam Lock Tool

The time has come for a timing belt change. The last time I changed my timing belt I was able to borrow a schwaben cam lock tool from my local mechanic. He has retired now and sold off his tools. Does anyone have any idea where someone could beg, borrow, or rent one of these tools? Maybe you can make one? Or can you do the timing belt change without one? I can justify $250 for the belt kit and water pump but not another $180 for the tool. Any help is appreciated

which engine? there are a couple of different locking tools. Ebay is good for cheap chinese stuff which was where I got mine. It did the job, I'm sure a pro mechanics shop would have a nicer one but it just needs to lock the cams, no moving parts.

Looking for the tool for a 2.8l 30 valve, I think I will end up making one.

Thanks

I'm pretty sure that is cam tool 3391. Its just a metal strap with holes, nothing special, you can spend $150 on brand name ones but sites like ebay have cheap ones for like $30 - $40 considering you are only going to use it once or twice. Some have little kits that include the crank locking pin 3242 as well. Some people don't bother with them and just count the teeth on the old belt but I like to have peace of mind of doing the job once and getting it right the first time.

I ended up buying the schwaben tool. Everything is going pretty well so far, just need more time to finish the job.
