According to Audi, the software was installed on a grand total of 14,000 cars sold in the U.S., and not on any of the 3.0 TDIs used in the A6s in the US. Audi Announces U.S. Models Affected By Dieselgate

Default THE actual WVU report that caused the VW diesel problem

As a great fan of the 3.0TDI and having read all about how the SCR system (adblue) takes care of the NOx issue I was a bit "set back" reading that one of the 2 VW engines had the SCR system. (They tested two 2.0l VWs - one with and one without the SCR) and a BMW with a 3l in line TDI engine with the SCR system. Here is the actual article that all this is based on:

Obviously a very technical report, however, it is unfortunately very clear that in this engine (for MY 2012 and/or MY2013) the SCR does not seem to completely take care of the NOx. Of course this is on a sample of 1 (each) so we should not draw a lot of conclusions based on this as well as the fact that I think the 3.0l TDIs in Audis starting with MY 2014 are slightly different, however, I am not as confident (as I was earlier) that the next Audi I buy will have the 3.0 TDI.
Let's see how all this plays out....

This is a thoughtful reply. Your comments I believe are about Vehicle B, which I believe to be a MY2012 Passat which was the first year that the SCR system was introduced.

VW has already admitted that this model also had the software defeat enabled during normal driving. Also, VW has said there was considerable internal dialog that the adblue consumption in those cars perhaps should have been 2x higher than it was and it would impact their "10K" adblue fillup.

Interestingly the adblue tank on the passat is 5 gal and many owners are saying over 10K they are only putting in ~1.5 gallon.

In my TDI I'm putting in about 4 gallons over 10K miles.
