Default 2005 A6 3.2L Quattro Runner Flaps Sticking

I need some help. I got my car from Audi today because they "didnt have time to work on it because there were cars before mine" and i need it to drive. They had typed on the paper that the flaps were stuck. I was wondering if there was a simple solution to this because i need to get my car inspected and i need this engine light off. Car currently has 67,000 miles on it. The car does some sort of jerk when im in lower gear when it shifts but i think that might be from the engine light problem. Thank you for anyones input.

That happens from carbon buildup in the intake manifold. At least on the 4.2 thats what happens. You can take it apart and try cleaning it, but I really don't know that much about the 3.2 to tell you for sure.

The flaps are inside the intake manifold and change the direction of the air flow when you step hard on the accelerator. They can get gummed up and stop working but they can also not function due to a problem with the actuators. Make sure that the dealer finds the actual cause and doesn't just replace the intake manifold. If I remember correctly some forum members have found that their problem was a broken linkage which was easily repaired on the outside of the manifold.

Do you know where the linkage arm is located? A description or pictures would be great. Thanks!

You obviously have some friction somewhere, so take a look at the actuator arm and read up on this thread:

This might seem stupid but i have located the parts around the arm and see the arm but do i have to remove the manifold to get to it to see if that is the problem?

First make sure that the intake runner actuator rod is properly connected to the vacuum actuator. That is the first point of failure.

i looked to see if the rod is connected to the vacuum actuator and it seems to just be resting against the bottom. im not sure if it is supposed to be clipped or connected to something or just resting on it

Can someone let me know what the symptoms are of a sticking runner flap? I have an RPM jump during the 2nd and 3rd shift it seems and i was just driving home from work and noticed that the RPM needle was fluctuating coasting at 45 mph. Just had the following replaced: ECM, fuel pump, fuel filter, Intake sensor.
