Default Front Brakes

stock 01.5 s4 avant
I was driving a great mountain road the other day and was having a great time until I came to a steep downhill straightaway. A school bus was unloading and I had to get on the stock binders pretty hard and then... they started fading... and fast! Scared me a bit.

I need to replace the pads and rotors anyway so what is my best value? I really don't want to spend a lot of money $300 - $600.

These any good?

Are these stage 2's worth the extra money?

or is there anything better???(for the money)

I would go ahead and get the kit - I doubt your pads and rotors are really the issue - unless you are making metal to metal contact your braking capacity is not going to fade out quickly just because the pads are old. You probably need to get a higher quality pad to handle the hard braking and do a thorough flush, refill and bleed of the brake fluid.

check brake fluid. as the pads wear the fluid in the reservoir takes up the difference.

did your abs kick on?

That's just an OE replacement kit. Not much more performance than stock. Don't let the rotors fool you, going with a slotted rotor really isn't going to give you any difference on the street.
To get better performance from brakes you need better pads and fluid.

Stick with plain face rotors, Zimmermann, ATE, Balo are all genuine German made and high quality components.
For pads, go with something with a higher operating temp than OE. PBR Ceramics, Hawk HPS, just to name a couple..

Fluid, go with a good high quality DOT4 like ATE Super Gold, or Motul DOT5.1, both are excellent street fluids.

We've got a couple good options available, visit our site, or email me if you have questions.

No ABS, but the fluid thing makes a lot of sense as the pads are near end of life.

I have heard that drilled rotors don't do much but I was under the impression that slotted helped a bit. Not really??

Not for street applications and stock power. The drilled rotors are supposed to dissipate heat better and the slots direct brake dust away from the rotor.

My guess is that the main factor in braking power is the size of the rotors and the pad material.

Drilled rotors also help develop cracks faster. Nice for show, but I wouldn't get them otherwise.
