Transmission rebuild?
1st and 2nd gear are dead on my 2001 TT 225hp Quattro 6-speed.
I'm trying to figure out the best way to get this fixed. I'm not having much luck finding local repair shops that will rebuild a manual transmission for an Audi because it requires vendor specific tools that nobody wants to buy given the low volume of work they'd actually do.
One place quoted me $1300 for a used transmission with 100,000 miles on it.
Anyone got any ideas for me on how to do about this, what my options are, etc?

I'd probably go for a used trans &, then, tear into the original. I'd want to see if it was a shifter issue, or gears/shaft/bearings problem. If it was a shifter/forks kinda issue, I'd try to fix it & put it up on a shelf for future reinstallation.
But, that's me.

This sounds like the shifter fork deal. Trans out but a somewhat easy job.
I had a dealer R&R my Beetle (same basic drivetrain) transmission five years ago to replace 1st gear that Ballykid ground to bits being, well, himself. Also had the three main clutch pieces replaced with OEM parts. $2000.00 parts & labor. There was a gear & Synchro included in the part cost.
