Big, fast, powerful, and light on its feet, the S8 showcased Audi’s new aluminum Space Frame construction. It weighed just over 4,000 lbs, or about 1,000 lbs less than a Mercedes-Benz S430. The new Space Frame was not only lighter but offered more space and better crash protection than a comparable steel body. In terms of luxury, it offered the decadence of a Jaguar XJ8 Vanden Plas. With the new 4.2-liter V8 producing 296 horsepower, it could sprint to 60 mph in under 6 seconds and hang with some of the best GT cars of its day.
