Default Head building Q's

So, head gasket blew, im pulling heads to replace. Done some searching here and found I need to use 20v I5 ARP studs, cool. Also thinking of going oversize valves.

Details: 1995 90QM W/ ported AAH heads on it now (8mm stems, dual stock springs)

Looking to go HD springs, TI retainers, 7mm stem undercut oversize valves.

So my question is, where is the best place to get said items (springs, retainers, arp studs, and valves).

Q. Im not in front of my ETKA right now, does anyone know if the VW 8v valves/springs/retainers are the same as the AAH? I.E. Run 8V supertech oversize valves?

Default Raceware head studs are also an option...An old member here swore by them.

Not sure where to find the Ti parts, maybe contact Mance regarding that...

The head workshop link in my sig will be very helpful if you haven't seen it already.

Please, report back to us if you are able to find these parts.

Default Just ordered HD springs, TI retainers, oversize undercut valves, ARP hardware, tapered guides,...

3 groove keepers, stem seals, etc. I'm gonna have a fun weekend! Already got AAH cams on there w/ ported heads so this is really gonna wake 'em up!

P.S. From my days in the VW world, I always thought these heads looked awfully familiar! Turns out the valvetrain is IDENTICAL to an OBD1 early ABA 2.0L motor (except that the ABA has 39.5mm intake and we have 40mm, but going oversize dont matter).

Another note: head studs can be sourced from VW 16v engine codes PL and 9A, also from it's longer Audi cousin the 7A 20v.

Called Colin over at Techtonics Tuning and he was very helpful, should get everything on my doorstep friday! WOOT!

Now I really can't wait for my SXTB to come, and send my MAF out to Mance as soon as that project gets under way!

Pics to come this weekend.

Specs by end of week:

AFC block
AAH pistons and rods
AAH cams
AAH heads - ported
AFC exhaust manifolds - ported
41mm oversize 7mm stem 6.5mm undercut intake valves - stainless w/ black nitride coating
34mm oversize 7mm stem 6.5mm undercut exhaust valves - stainless w/ black nitride coating
Titanium retainers
HD dual valve springs
ARP undercut head studs
Custom RT ported TB
3" hose kit w/ VAP HVRS

TB to be replaced soon w/ VAP XSTB
Soon to have VAP RS3 MAF w/ VS
Working on eliminating 6200 limit and soon to get 272 cams w/ light lifters
Also working on porting IM, about 1/2way done, will go on soon as well

Default Good info...

You've basically outlined my plans for the heads...maybe gun-drilled cams too...

Also, you may want to consider OEM AFC lifters as they are already "lightweight" at ~50g.
