Default custom intake?

Has anyone made or installed a custom intake in there 2.7T??? And if i do decide to make one should i get one with a heatshield? I dont know if i should get the K&N cone with no heat shield or a ghetto brand with a heat shield?

Default A thought...

As designed, the intake is using air from outside the engine bay. Granted its feeding into the stock filterbox and flat filter. But, it is taking in outside air.

Most of the adapted intakes for th 2.7T A6 or allroad do one thing right but some go to far and it becomes a waste of effort.

What's right is changing to a filter with more surface area. So going to a cone shape could be beneficial.

What's wrong IMO, from what I've learned is when th eintake no longer uses the outside air but is just an open cone-filter tht is using internal engine bay air. This air is Hot as...______.
Hotter air is less dense and what you have given with a less restrictive intake, you are countering with the heated air of the engine bay.

If you were to do a correct and truly beneficial custom, it would entail allowing greater air volume to come into the system from outside the engine bay.
