Default Oil in intake manifold?

So I'm in the process of doing head gaskets on my 2000 4.2 a6 Quattro... Pulled off the lower intake manifold today and there was oil in it. Not a ton but enough to worry me. How does oil get into the intake manifold?

Also there is a lot of leakage and old oil in between the two heads under where the intake manifold is. Wondering where that could be coming from... Any clues?

Could be passing through your PVC. That would be the simple fix.
