*Sigh*....Took my Car to Jiffy Lube this weekend.....
My local Dealer's 24 hour turnaround time on an oil change is unnacceptable with my schedule....and I had put it off....so I did it Saturday morning. It put my mind as ease to see a 7 Series getting serviced when I pulled in
They vaccuumed the car, after I told them not to! But thank goodness....they did not top off any fluids other than washer fluid...as I told them not to.
Question: they tried to sell me on a process, that includes cleaning the injectors, the throttle body, and the intake manifold, on special for $59.99. The strange part is that they said it would take about 15 minutes to do.....that doesn't add up to me....seems like a process doing the actions mentioned above at the price mentioned above, would take a little longer.
In the end, I didn't have the $59.99 cleaning done...just motor oil and filter...and they put 10W30 in it....another concept the local dealer is unable to grasp!
So what is the deal with this service they offered me? Was is legit?

The process actually works..
But you can do it yourself for 1/20th the price.
Basically they find a suitable vacuum port on your intake, and blast a can of solvent cleaner (ie carb cleaner) in using the vacuum of your motor.
Have you never taken a can of throttlebody/carb cleaner to your TB/intake? This is a easy process, and quite frankly should be done a few times a year. You'd be surprised all the crap that gets regurgitated up there.
Just be sure to get the good tb/carb cleaner, the cheap ones, the straw falls off easily and can get sucked into the intake..

I'll have to try that!
Just take off the air filter assembly, start the motor, and spray into the intake? Does the motor need to be revved at all?
I watched my dad do it when I was a lot younger, I didn't know fuel injected cars needed it done too.
Any brands for carb cleaner you would recommend?

Throttle body cleaning ?!
A technician at my local dealer cleaned my TB a few months ago, and the car triggered a CE light on the way home. Never ran right.
A week later I was able to get another appointment, and I had the GOOD technician work on my car this time. He had to REPLACE the damaged throttle body -- damaged by the other technician who "cleaned" it.
As I understand it, the cleaning solvent washed away the lubricants -- kinda like spraying WD40 into a lock. It is a good quick fix, but it washes away the lubricants.
So I am leery about cleaning the TB. Can this process actually clean the TB without damamging it?
Curious,
Peter

Don't use carb cleaner, use something made for fuel injection...
Throttle bodies usually have a coating on the inside(Teflon I think) and carb cleaner can eat it away. Only use stuff that is made for Fuel Injected engines.

The Best thing is having Motorvac Carboncleaning done, ive done it to my Miata...
That process is more, around 70-100 to do...but they connect the car to a machine which then runs special detergents, etc through the system. Made a TON of difference on my Miata when i bought it...since the VW 5v head is notorious for carbon buildup, im getting the Audi done when i get some downtime.
