2001 1.8t vs vr6 guess who wins?
ya me and my friend were racing he has a 98 vr6 and i have a 2001 1.8 t. we started out together and we went but his gears are longer then mine so he beats me by passing me while iam shifting. how can i cure this solution. i still was nest to him in 1st and 2nd gear but his 3rd gear is very strong and how can i improve my 3rd gear

A chip will certainly help, and might turn the tide, but the VR6 does have a *lot* of pull from 65 to 100 mph (all in third gear). The VR6 keeps steaming on through 6800RPM.
My previous car was a '94 Passat GLX (VR6, 5-speed) and had such a different character than my '01 1.8TQMx that I don't even feel like the same person behind the wheel. The VR6 is kind of a dog below 3500RPM, which means you drive around at 85+ in fifth gear just to get some satisfaction, shift habitually at 6k to get the most of the intake's howl, etc. Whereas the A4 pulls along happily at 2500, and it isn't broken in enough to start experimenting with much higher numbers.
(Perhaps a chip, exhaust, and a sporting wheel+tire package will turn the tables emotionally...)<p>--
