80k or so miles, synchro's going out, anyone else had this problem?

Default 80k or so miles, synchro's going out, anyone else had this problem?
Car is grinding under acceleration into 3rd gear, the problem has been diagnosed by myself and some friends as the synchros going out. Has anyone else had this problem? And about how much would it cost to fix this? I know it would involve opening up the tranny. I've also heard people have had luck switching transmission fluid. Any advice/help would be great! TIA

Very common for 3rd gear on A4s.

Default go to bostonaudi.org seems to be big topic lately....
seems that everyone with problem is switching oil and it seems to work

Default How hard is it to change tranny oil?
Is it a reasonable DIY thing? Thanks for the BostonAudi memo too, they've got some info.
