They are louder than any stock horn I've ever heard.
Doesn't mean a stock horn exist(ed) that was louder...I just haven't heard it.
I've got the stock horns plus the Hella SuperTones blowing at the same time.
Seriously, people who are expecting loud horns when I demonstrate typically jump. People who are not expecting a horn blow always jump.
steve..stock horns SUCK

Cake on a 1998.5 V6...(more)
I installed them on the opposite side of the car from the stock horns. (installation consists of getting to the stock horn wiring, tapping that...running to a relay. Then wire up a power wire from the battery to the other side of the relay & to the horns. then mount the horns)
The 1.8T engine for the 1998 model has the stock horns in the same place, but the air intake blocks the spot where I mounted mine. You'd have to find another spot to put them...not too hard.
I have corresponded with someone who had either a 99.5 or a 2000 who said the stock horns are no longer easy to get to. I can't comment, since I haven't dug around in one.
