Bought new mirror glass, came to learn i have heated mirrors
Hi-
So, I had to buy new glass for my drivers side mirror, as the original had delaminated to the point where the car won't pass inspection. I went to pull the mount out and noticed that I had a couple of wires attached to the mount, which i assume are for heating the mirror. I guess i should have checked first. Anyway, I returned the replacement part, and now I find that I can get a cut piece of mirror for about $11.
I mount that new glass directly over the old, but that seems cheasy. Is there a way to remove the old glass from the mount? The delamination has done half the job for me, but the rest of the glass is on pretty good. Can I soak the whole assembly (after removing the wires) in something. I looked at some of the debadging articles, but I am not sure if the techniques used there are entirely appropriate.
Has anyone ever successfully removed the glass from its housing? If so, what is the best way to do it.
Thanks,
Dan

i replaced mine. here's what i did>>>>
i bought a 'blind-spot' mirror for driver's side. (outer edge is convex.)
what you do, believe it or not, is stick your fingers behind and pull. it will come right out. it's got a row of little black tabs that lock into a ring in the housing.
this is all presuming that you are replacing the entire mirror with mount and plugs for the wires. the mirror is bonded to that, and not a replaceable part, to my knowledge.

Re: Maybe smash it to bits and pull them out individually?
Yeah, someone else suggested that. it actually seems like the most reasonable option. then i can just clean the housing and mount the new glass.
