Default Car takes ride on flatbed truck... long, please advise.

I know I could wait for the dealership to call tomorrow but I want to know what might be wrong.
I was leaving a gas station and I got to the stop light and my car felt like it was going to stall. Thinking, "that's strange," I gave it a bit of gas to keep it from stalling. Rounded the corner and it was hesitating... engine light came on. Made it to the next light and kept it from stalling in the middle of the intersection and pulled over. Smoke started coming from under the hood, smells like burning rubber/electronics (if you have ever smelled a fried computer chip that is what it was like but I don't think that is what it was). Called roadside assistance went out and car would not start. While I was waiting I took off the plastic engin cover (seemed to be where the smoke was coming from) one of the caps over the spark plugs seemed to be a bit higher than the rest. I don't think that bodes well.

25000 miles on car... 1000 to scheduled maintenance... had the cam belt tensioner replaced about a month ago.
