Check engine light

Well, that could be anything........
get the codes read and find out what they are. You may not "notice" anything but there are many sensors that fail and the car will still run fine.

after taking the info from your post... it's pretty clear what happened
check engine lights on these cars are usually caused by failure to relieve strain on nitrous lines before accelerating.
This is usually caused by not properly warming up the car, or letting it cool down. Your best bet for remeding this situation, is
1) go inside your car and put your key into accessory
2) pull your driver door handle twice and your passenger door handle once (from the inside)
3) pump the gas pedal 3 times in less then 4 seconds but not less then 2 seconds, ideally we are looking for a three second pedal pump
4) Start the car
this should have reset your check engine light...
these cars come stock with nitrous lines that are prone to failure... if you are still worried, search the forum archives. There is lots of information about failure on the nitrous lines, Or else the muffler bearings.. good luck!
