check engine light, cold temperature

check engine light, cold temperature
I have a 1997 Audi A4 1.8T with 149k miles. My car was sitting out in a parking lot overnight and it was about 40 degrees out, the first really cold night in a while. This morning when I went out to go to work, I started my car and it felt kind of rough and then the check engine light turned on. I thought maybe this might have something to do with the cold temperature, so I let the car warm up for about 15 minutes, then turned off the car and restarted it, it felt okay, but the check engine light was still on. I drove to work, the car felt fine. Sorry about the long post, but I'm just wondering if anyone knows what might have caused this? Also, does anyone know of a good independent mechanic in the Arlington/Irving area of Texas? Thanks!

Re: Most likely a misfire. The light will remain on for a while unless you clear the code.
That seems right that it was a misfire. Now would this have caused any damage to my car? It seemed to have run fine after it warmed up, but the check engine light is still on. Is there any way I can clear the code out by myself, or do I need to take it in to a shop?

An occasional misfire is fairly common on these cars... nothing to worry about.
No way to clear the code yourself unless you have VAG-COM or can find someone nearby who does.
