Hypothetically, if my motor grenading was caused purely by manufacturing flaw...
...would I have a case w/Audi? I had 58k on the motor (97 1.8T) and there's no reason why it threw a rod out the block. Currently I don't know the cause of why it did, but if when the motor is pulled, the cause is apparently something wrong with Audi's parts....do I have a case with AoA?
For the record, I bought the car used w/25k about 2 years ago. Audi Advantage expired in late Feb, sticking me about 4 months out of warranty.
Oh yeah, there's also that issue with the big turbo that's currently hanging off the side...though I suppose that could conveniently dissapear if need be...
Just curious.

There are people that have had repairs done out of warranty
but, it would be a good faith gesture more than anything else. The fact that you are running a large turbo is not going to help your case. If you were still under warranty, AOA might even deny work. IMO, the best chance you have is to remove the SIII kit, and put it back to stock. Then have your mechanic check everything out to make sure there are no signs that an aftermarket part caused the damage. You have a chance, how very miniscule it may be.

The number one reason for something like that to happen to an engine is from
over rev...if you're sure you've never exceeded the maximum engine speed (a permanent flag in the ECU...once thrown it's there for good they say) you might be able to put it back to stock and try to pass it off, but your chances are pretty slim.
You have any top end damage or is the motor not apart enough to tell yet? A new engine can be had for ~2500~3000 easy, though I'm sure that's not very comforting to hear...sorry :-(
BTW - I was just thinking about what you said...and how you're out of warranty. When Audi does step up to the plate on stuff like this they usually pitch in some money...but it's always thru a dealer and their techs do the work. The engine I'm sure to them is at a deep discount...so when they sell you a motor for $3000 when it costs $6000 on the books or whatever the only favor they're really doing is selling it to you at cost. I think you'll ultimately find that even if they were to pitch in the total bill would be higher because the initial cost would be based on catalog parts and dealer labor.
