Default Idle problems

Looking for suggestions. '96 AFC 2.8 with 106K miles. I'm having an idle problem. All appears normal at 750 - 800 RPM, then it suddenly falls off to 400 - 500 and recovers, or dies completely. Always restarts easily and runs well, but idle is unpredictable. No codes displayed in VAG COM

Thanks for the reply. I had it out and all looks well. Ohms checked okay as well. I didn't pull the mounting flange for the valve. Any recommendation on cleaning the valve? What I could see of the plunger, it looked clean.

Default I'm not 12valve experienced. If the valve has been thoroughly cleaned and it still doesn't idle

properly, I'd surmise it was either a bad valve or perhaps you have a vacuum leak. Perhaps Kris or some other 12v owner will pop on with some advice. You can also post in the 12v forum ..

https://www.audiworld.com/forum/12v.html</a

Found the tech site Kris has, and along with another input, all the guess work is gone. Will follow their suggestions and see what happens from there.

Is this possible on a 1.8?

Default No there is no idle control valve on the 1.8t. If you have an idle hunting problem it is more likely

to be a vac leak or a bad MAF, etc.

There "maybe" some confusion in terminology here, there is a Throttle Control Valve on the 1.8t which encompasses the Throttle Positioning Sensor.

Ultimately the throttle control valve on a 1.8t otherwise known as the throttle body is effectively an idle control valve among other things.
