Immobilizer problems
Occasionally upon starting up (both when engine is cold oe hot, more frequent when hot), the immobilizer warning light comes on and cuts the engine. Thus far, Audi cannot find the problem. Is there anybody who have seen this problem?

I have had this problem once......
I had the same problem in my '97 1.8. From time to time, the enginewould start up and then quit after 2-3 seconds. It happended most likely on cold start. The immobilizer light also would't go off. Problem got worse so, I brought my car in, mechanic checked it with VAG 1551 tool. It was diagnosed that the recoil unit (where you insert your key in the steering column) received "low signal" from the key.<br> Prior to that, I had my both key recoded, so the problem from the key was ruled out.<p>In short , I had the recoil unit replaced under warranty. Recoil unit costs around US$ 100<p>My advice; have your key recoded first. If the problem persist, comtact your physician Opps, I mean your mechanics :-)<p>Good luck...
