Need 1.8TQ Clutch recs--Parts List Inside also...
Looking for a clutch for my 99.0 1.8T quattro.
It has 175K and likely needs a new flywheel as well.
The car only has chip, HFC, and exhaust as listed in the sig and does not get launched or tracked.
I do not want to go lightweight flywheel due to the noise/chatter drawbacks. I am debating between the 034 motorsport solid flywheel with sprung hub organic clutch disc ($795 for kit with FW) vs getting an OEM dual mass FW and OEM clutch kit. These options are nearly identical in cost.
My main goal with this clutch is longevity and streetability. Any opinions will be greatly appreciated.
Here is the list of additional parts I plan to replace while I am in there--any additions would be appreciated. Thanks to Mike at PureMS for help with the list.
clutch/flywheel/TB/flywheel bolts/pilot bearing
Throwout bearing sleeve (if OEM is damaged/worn)
R engine mount
L engine mount
R trans mount
L trans mount
Slave Cylinder
CV seals(right and left)
Rear main crankshaft seal
Exhaust gaskets on either side of cat con
Fluid for trans / rear diff--motul vs. redline MT90
Is there a rear output shaft seal and input shaft seal on the trans?
Thanks
Ashok

I like my Spec Stage 2 with a 16 lbs steel fw...
It's a solid single mass steel fw with a sprung hub friction disk (not puck style, but also not full face). Pedal resistance and engagement is very similar to stock, though it does squeal a bit if I slip it too much. I hear it's because the composite compound of the friction disc can build up on the fw. A couple quick launches and it goes away. I've since learned to break my habit of slipping it at lights and such, so I rarely hear it anymore.
I can't promise you longevity though. My last Spec clutch lasted 15k miles, but I had a APR StgIII turbo kit at the time and was pretty hard on it. Spec claims I should get at least 60k out of this one if I'm not trying burn-outs often.
