Default Is the Passat ECU the exact same as the A4?

I found a 98 Passat at a junk yard, and would like to have that ECU chipped instead of mine. I need to know if they are interchageable (?). I have read that Tips are different than Manuals. Is that a fact?
Any help would be appreciated.

The way I understand it, that ECU should work even if one is a trip and the other is a manual. The ECU would have to be coded for the appropriate trans though. AWE could answer you question more thourghly.

Isn't the gearing different? I'd double check it with the chipping company.

Edward... Where are you located? I'm looking for some other parts from an 1.8T.
