Default Pedal goes to the floor.

Everyonce in a while my pedal will go all the way to the floor and if i pump my brakes it will start to gain pressure and then i can stop. This happened a year ago and didnt do it since until recently. Any ideas?

Default Sorry should have put in more info.

The fluid is at the same level it has always been, so i dont think i have a leak. I thought it might be air in the lines but would it always go to the floor or be spongy. When this happens i could have totally normal brakes and then it would just go all the way to the floor. Get back in my car to leave work and everything is fine.

Default what kind of driving are you doing?

beating on it or just regular driving.

I'd flush the brakes and put in new fluid, and see if that helps you any.

If not, maybe you're burning up your pads? I know when you overheat pads to the point that they fade, they will act like you're describing. Real spongy, but once they cool off they're almost normal.

Mostly commuting, i mean i get on it a bit but im not beatin the hell out of it. This also has happened right when i turn the car on. Im replacing the master this weekend and flushing everything. Hopefully that will take care of it. Only time will tell

Default another way to test if it's the master cylinder...

is to step and hold on the brake. If it continues to sink to the floor, then that's a sure sign that it's bad, or you have a leak :-P

I was gonna say if you were romping on it and really getting on the brakes, it oculd be pad fade. That doesn't soudn like you're experiencing pad fade though.
