Productive but expensive weekend... (a few questions inside)
Friday: Replaced two rear wheel bearings, and two front upper control arms, plus treated my baby to some Motul.
Saturday: Woke up after only 3hrs sleep with a massive hangover and set out to install some brakes. Installed the A8 Upgade in front (TT Carriers (courtesy of TighTT), ECS (Zimmerman) slotted A8 Rotors, and some PBR Metal Masters. Also replaced rear rotors with some brand new OEM replacements and tossed in some metal masters in the back too.
The brake install wasn't bad at all, and whoever said it was a major PITA to do the rears without a caliper tool isn't the sharpest tool in the shed.
While I was in there I cleaned up my calipers using the wire brush wheel attachment thingy on the air gun so that the are ready for paint next week.
Unfortunately I didn't snap any pics cause my GF has my camera, and its a shame too... the brakes looked nice all shiney and stuff...
After bedding them in on the way home, my rotors are now blue-ish... Is this normal?
Also when you get the idiot light for your brake pad wear indicators (I was down to about a millimeter of pad material) do you need to use a VAG-COM to reset it after a brake job?

the idiot light will go off on its own.
my quick sensor wire fix sometimes goes on the blink, so i get the pad light on and off for a few days a month. it goes away on its own.

yep... thats the one! FYI I had no problem with the rear caliper using a c-clamp
as long as you position the head of the clamp properly (balance it so it applies even pressure), it will rotate the piston while retracting it... didn't take me much longer than about 2 minutes to retract the entire piston.
