Yes the point is to make the car as fast as possible.
But they set the event up for street legal cars which means there has to be rules. This means the car must have a cat, DOT legal tires and street legal fuel. The rules even state that the car much have its street legal 3 point seat belt still in the car, not sure if the rules state that all doors must work and all windows must be able to roll up and down. I think all of these rules keep the playing field fair for everyone so that all cars must be the same, this keeps guys from gutting the car to the bone and removing all equipment from the doors to drop all the weight they can.
