question about installing subs to stock Bose system.....
I have a '99 2.8 with the concert Bose system. I don't have very much experience doing electrical work so I am looking at having someone else do it. How much should I have to to pay to install an amp and two 8" subs? Is this possible to do??

two 8" subs why not just get a single 12"
yes you can wire in a subwoofer but you need to know the pinout from the head unit and the pinout of the rear deck speakers.
A single 12" has more surface area than a pair of 8" subs. It is easier to wire and you can get a better woofer for less money.
Where are you at? If you are in the NJ or NY area I might be able to help you out.

Last I checked.....
if the rear speakers are self amplified then yes you can quite easily add a subwoofer because the rear speakers are being sent signal via a wire harness that attaches to the drivers side rear deck speaker.
The pinout on it is as follows:
white = remote
brown = signal ground
blue w/red = right signal
blue w/grn = left signal
From this you can add a separate amplifier that feeds from the same signal as the rear deck speakers.

I don't know crap about car audio, but know something about audio in general....
All else equal, two smaller woofers will react more quickly than one larger woofer. They're lighter, stiffer and have less deflection. Therefore they will be more accurrate. I don't really know if it'll make a difference in a car, though. QFUG makes some good points, though. Going with one 12" is more space- and cost-efficient. And he rightly pointed out one 12" will move more air than two 8"s.

I already have the subs and amp.........
They are 2 200watt Audiobahns w/ dual coilovers in an Obcom enclosure and a 400 watt MTX amp. I had it in my Mercedes and it rocked. Even though they are just 8" subs, they bump pretty hard.

i had an amp and 10"bazooka installed off rear speaker signal. no complaints!! pretty easy install.
put the subs in a box and save your car from any cutting. plenty of room in the trunk. the sound should defintely improve. i had amp installed on back of seat. 4 little screws, no permaent damage. hold bazooka down with simple strap.
couple of bucks for great sound. aleady had the equipment from my GTI, so it was just collecting dust!

here is what i think
My friend has a bose system for his car, and it doesnt sound all that great. To install it, its not that hard, i only paided $30 with the high/lows thing you need to convert some crap. To install the amp, i recommend under the rear trunk lid, thats what I did. I know how to install it now, i could run you through it, and tell you how to do. I would of done it myself if I knew what I know now. I did it on my cuz'z protege
