Default And the Stage III plans have taken a haitus...

Well, this weekend I went to look at a used 3rd gen RX-7. It was in great condition and had 5000 worth of OEM replacement work done to it (ECU, Exhaust, seals, and some other stuff). Went for a test drive... and WOW! I have to get me one of these!

I love my A4, and it is a great car. I was going to go down to APR and get Stage III, but after driving RX-7 I know that even with a Stage III I'll never be able to get the car feeling like a the sports car the RX-7 is. So, I've decided to hold off on the Stage III and look into getting a RX-7. The one I looked at was nice, but certainly not worth the price he was asking ($19,000!).

Anyway, just thought I would share.

Anyone know a good RX-7 forum where I can get good info. Already been to www.rx7forum.com.

Default Hold on a minute...

Do some research Kendall...I have heard from AW'ers that the RX7 engines require significant work every 50K miles (not sure exactly which engine...or if that applies to all rotary engines).

That aside...are you registered for VIR? You can still work on your driving skillz with your little stage 2 A4 you know! =) *nudge nudge*

Default Yeah, most of the reseach I have seen...

basically says that the Engine replacement is required anywhere between 60-80k miles. That's why a lot of the used ads specifically state how many miles on the new engine or turbos. Definitely will be doing much research to find something that is somewhat reliable. However, this will end up being my summer car on weekends when I want to feel the RWD oversteer car So, I'm not expecting to get anywhere near 5000 miles a year on the thing. From what I understand the rotary engines are the main cause for the maintenance requirements. Plus most people drove their RX-7's into the ground.

Is it too late to register for VIR? I have been really busy lately and have only been able to lurk on the board for 15-20 minutes a day. Feel kinda out of touch. Don't worry my StageII car is still worth pushing through twisties Though, I really wish I had been able to make the Winter event. Great write-up and sounds like you guys had a blast!

Thanks for the advice, and let me know about the VIR thing. Going to check the PA QC site now.

Default Last I heard, registration for VIR was still open. Send in registration and $$, you can always

cancel by the end of March (specific date is on the potomac region's website) for a full refund (minus any quattro club dues, if applicable). Sign up and worry about the rest later.

Plus, if it's full (which I doubt), I'm sure they won't just keep your $$

Default As wonderful as A4's are, they are not sports cars...

and will never have the tossability that a sports car has...but that's the nature of the beast. As you can tell by what i did, i chose two cars that are at different ends of the spectrum over one highly modified A4...there is a beauty to having a specialized car.

Cheers
