a "universal" mute for phones like the Startac, Samsung, etc... It will take some bleeding edge risks, as you will be on the forefront.

JamesR, the EE Guru, is helping me out with the handsfree FAQ for the Nokia 8260. He's designing the mute function for it. Now the way it works is I got a express carkit, that plugs into the cig lighter, and has the speaker on it... There are kits like this for most phones out there. You need one of these kits to participate.

If you can open one up, and test for a connection that changes voltage level at one of the incoming wires from the cable you plug into the phone, during a call, then James can make the circuit work for several models via a jumper. The voltage needs to be constant. The whole project to be interpeted for another phone will be on you, BUT the upcoming faq (we hope) will have enough info that anyone so inclined will be able to take an express carkit and integrate it into the Audi system, includng the mute feature.

For example. On the Nokia carkit for the 8260, there is a pin that connects to the cable that goes to the phone, that has a voltage level of 2.59 while there is no call. Then it changes to 1.45 during a call. When the call is complete it goes back up the 2.59. Probing for this info will not work without the carkit. Now that you get the idea, Go open those kits...

Right now, unless you folks pitch in with info, the next FAQ will work only with the Nokia 8260. So speak up, and help out, so we can get other phones to benefit from JamesR's talents.
