Default Wheel help

I just purchased a 1999.5 Audi A4 Avant Quattro. I want to put 17's on it but was wondering what the best size would be. I was looking at some 17x7.5 with a 45mm offset.

I have a 1998 A4 Avant quattro and changed from the original 16" wheels to 17" wheels long ago. One set of wheels are 17 x 8, shod with 225/45-17 tires. Winter wheels are 17 x 7.5, also with 225/45-17 tires. Both sets have the standard 35 offset. However checking Tire Rack's website, looks like other offsets will work, as well, including 45. I suggest you check with them or another tire/wheel seller like Discount Tire to confirm the exact wheels you are considering will work without issue.
