Default 2004 Audi A4 - 1.8T Quattro - Cam Adustor Leaking Oil

The dealer advised the cam adjustor is leaking oil from the union point from where it joins the cylinder head and the oil is most likely pooling in that orfice. Recommended to solve the issue by replacing the adjuster along with seals for it. Of course, quoted high price for cam adjustor, seals and labor. Is this something can do myself? The car only has 56k miles so willing to repair and get this back on the road. The car starts and miss fires but seems to be fixable since its not a blown head. Is this the cam adjustor? Possibly repair the cam adjuster or should I replace it? What do you advise and any other parts to replace at same time as cam? See attached pdf photo.

So a little confused if your mechanic is saying the misfires are due to the oil leak (which I don't understand), but sounds like you have 2 issues:

1) Oil leak from the cam adjuster. Not too difficult, but you need to very deliberate if you do it and messing it up can mess up your timing and really mess up your engine. You could just do the gasket and half moon unless you are suspicious of adjuster. That is your call based on the history of the car and it's oil changes. Here is a link that is really good; go to about the 30 minute mark. As an aside, I don't usually fix minor leaks If it doesn't produce a noticeable amount oil either on the ground or on surrounding parts. Can't tell from the picture if it is really minor seep or not.

2) I don't think your misfires are related to the oil leak. If your cam adjuster is malfunctioning, that's a different story. Download codes and determine if you have a single cylinder misfire or multiple.

Default 2004 Audi A4 - 1.8T Quattro Oil Leak

see attached pdf, after further review on this part the oil appears to be leaking heavy from that outlet at the red arrow in pic. Is it possible theres a plug or hose that gets connected to this part.

No idea. Would have to look at mine to see if there is anything that connects there.

Nothing connects there. It is a crimped seal. Unfortunately the only cure will be to replace the cam chain adjuster. I suppose you could try cleaning it up really well and put a blob of JB Weld on it and see if it will work for a while.

Also have someone advised that it could be missing a threaded plug to the oil housing. Is this at all possible? All the other suggestions had said Cam but now hearing it may be oil housing.

Get a mirror and take a really close look at the area that you circled in your pic. It should look like the crimp shown above. I have seen instances where the small crimps began to fail and the end of the actuator solenoid became loose and was shifting slightly in and out accompanied with a substantial oil leak. If the internal O ring is still good you may be able to simply push the solenoid actuator back in and re-crimp it in place. .
