Aftermarket hoses?
2005 A4 Quattro 1.8T
There are 2 hoses on the air system that I'm unsure about their purpose, and my uncle who is decent with these is unsure about as well. One is a thin blue hose running from the intake manifold to a valve that is in front of the turbo. The other is running from directly on top of the turbo to the ecu area. The car has a tune on it but these weren't mentioned.

That thin blue line should be going to a valve under the intake manifold. That line then splits from the valve and goes to the diverter valve. The previous owner may have bypassed the value underneath the IM. In the pictures it doesn’t make sense why it’s blue from the IM then at the diverter valve, it is black going into the valve. Is there is a barbed coupler connecting the 2 hoses together?
The tube leading to the ECU box is most likely the reference line for a boost gauge located in the cab of the car.

Yea the hose is clamped with the larger black hose going into the left of the valve in the second pic. And the other is most likely for a boost gauge yea, I forgot it used to have one on a previous owner.

Recommend to disassemble and inspect / clean / synthetic grease lube the aftermarket bypass valve. Use a Mighty Vac to test the vacuum connection and verify valve piston moves smoothly. Looks like it has not been serviced in a long time.

It's been sitting for a couple years, I'm pulling the motor to rebuild since it blew a headgasket presumably. Also is that the diverter valve? It's said to have an 034 Motorsports diverter valve but I didn't see any branding on it, could just be dirty.

Yours is a metal aftermarket bypass (diverter) valve and they are serviceable as the end cap is threaded so it can be removed and opened up. 034 is a good quality valve.

Try a compression test first. If compression test is good then no need to pull the head. If it blew a head gasket then it is usually from loss of cooling and the head overheated. Note the cylinder head can be replaced without pulling the engine.

We already have, it belonged to my uncle who didn't have it very long before it started overheating for whatever reason, he said water pump went out. He was pouring water in it to get to work for a few days and then it died. Pulling the whole thing to just rebuild the inside and also might upgrade turbo.

For those that have bypassed their N249 valve.. what did you use to cap off the line from the valve?
