Anyone know if we can run a 16x8 wheel with a 46mm offset? Think 8" is too wide for a winter wheel?

Anyone know if we can run a 16x8 wheel with a 46mm offset? Think 8" is too wide for a winter wheel?
I'm thinking it might be pushing the limit for width, but it's so tempting since I can get some really cheap.
I don't know if a 16x7 would really be much better since I don't have much experience with winter wheels. I could probably push the limit and use the smallest tire I can with a high profile with the 8" width wheel.
