Clutch engagement - catching high?
I took the car to the dealer to have them look at the clutch catching very high on the pedal (about 1 inch from the top), and they said they would have to take apart the transmission and if the clutch plate is wearing evenly they will replace it under warranty. However if they find it is wearing unevenly (signs of abuse) then they will have to charge me ~$2000cdn to replace.
Is this worth the risk? Some B6 owners say its normal for the clutch to engage pretty high on the pedal, while others say it should be lower. I don't want them to tear it apart and getting stuck with a bill while its under warranty.
Car is a 04 1.8T with 53,000km

Audi clutch 101....
Its hydraulic.
The pedal connects to the hydraulic clutch master cylinder, which inturn actuates the hydraulic clutch slave cylinder. Both utilize the brake fluid as their hydraulic oil.
My 2004, with 30,000 miles, is near the top.
Its been this way since I bought it.
I would lean more towards a worn master or slave cylinder, vise the clutch disk or pressure plate.
Why?
The clutch master & slave cylinders get pressed many, many times. The slave cylinder, being the low point, tends to collect all the systems garbage over the years. ;O)
