The AC shouldn't take away more than a 2-3hp max. Back in the 70's
people ordered muscle cars without AC because of the power robbing attribute that went with it. Then you were continually turning an inefficient compressor pulley. The easy way was to take off the belt that drove the compressor. Today the pulleys and AC compressors are much better and should have little to no-consequence in power. This has been backed up by car magazines in the past. Someday I feel it does take away power, but I find it hard to believe I would notice a few HP. I think a full tank and 1/4 full tank of gas would make a bigger difference as would the humidity. The true test is to have someone go to the dyno and make a couple of pulls. I will try to find some documentation of the power robbing attributes of the AC system.

Shouldn't, but does....
My car feels noticeably different with the A/C on in humid weather. It still moves once it's going, but thottle response suffers and it's more difficult to match revs while shifting. It was the same way with my '98 as well.
I understand what you're saying, but all you have to do is drive the car with and without the A/C on to feel a tangible difference.
